Case Studies / PARACHUTE
When you are asked to develop the website of a globally renowned company that sells... design, you need to be pixel precise.
This, along with the dozens of mechanisms that we had to implement on Drupal 7 & Drupal Commerce, rank this project among the toughest we have undertaken!PARACHUTE
An Online Store Attracting International Headlines
Big publishing houses such as Financial Times, National Geographic, McGraw-Hill, Time Warner and Disney assign the creation of their typefaces to Parachute®, an internationally awarded type foundry. So do multinational companies and institutions such as Ikea, Vodafone, Nestlé, Unilever and UEFA.
If you've already reached the peak, there's only one way to get higher.
There came a time when Parachute®, already globally trusted for selling sophistication and pixel perfection to designers, needed to move to level 2.0. Five years after its successful landing on the internet, the 'parachute' would take on a more streamlined form upgrading its eclectic fonts.
Parachute® letterforms are the work of talented designers and creatives. Minimum time required for the creation of a typeface with only regular, medium and bold weights is one year, give or take. A complete font family comprising light, thin, italic, narrow, bold etc. takes years to design and digitize. You see, it’s not just the letters. It’ also punctuation marks, shapes, languages, ligatures, spacing value (the space before and after each letter)… For example, each of the two weights of the awarded 'Champion' typeface comprises 4300 glyphs.
Through Thick and Thin
We were asked to redevelop the website on a new dynamic platform that would meet skydiving safety requirements, be agile and easy to work on. So here we were, Netstudio perfectionists meeting Parachute® perfectionists on the Drupal content management platform.
An Illustrated Manuscript in Drupal
We knew that only the Drupal 7 platform could meet such high standards in detail, precision and agility. Parachute® viewers see more than meets the eye. Creative artists demand pixel perfect. So does the Parachute® team.
The following months we had our medieval-monastery-calligraphy-drill experience. Hidden mechanisms here and there, animated presentation of each typeface… Typing text and getting an image…
To get the picture, go to 'Τypefaces', click on 'Champion', move the mouse over to the bottom left until 'Test Driver' appears, and click on 'Τext'.
Attention to the details in Parachute® fonts is matched with a meticulously handy website structure, even at the checkout and the cooperating designers' remuneration system. This was developed on a Drupal Commerce platform.
As it seems, accuracy landings are very demanding for parachutists and web developers alike.
