Case Studies / DDIAMANTI
Diamonds are supposed to be hard – not hard to choose.
Ddiamanti is our precious new gem ‒ a world-class glam design sparkling with excellent user clarity to showcase up to 130K diamonds ‒ loose or custom-set.DDIAMANTI
Online shopping for diamonds should be easier than finding your other half!
Ddiamanti was built on a surprisingly clear-cut concept: Although diamonds are multi-faceted personas involving an extensive set of quality values, finding and choosing a loose or set diamond needn’t be as complicated.
Despite an astonishing collection of the world’s upper quality diamonds (from 120,000 - 130,000 sparkling beauties available in various sizes, cuts and shapes) the online entrepreneur required a website with crystal-clear usability, ready to satisfy a practically infinite range of buyer whims.
Drupal CMS custom "diamonds" are an online buyer’s best friend
Naturally, the big spender here was our website developer. He spent on tailor-cut Drupal apps big time. Drupal offers a standard collection of "semi-mount" apps. These are like designer diamond rings offered with the side little "stones" set, and waiting for the customer to order a unique choice of "center stone".
A trilogy of selection forms for faithful engagement
The search forms of Ddiamanti are the gem of its Drupal custom apps collection. Three diversified selection forms ‒ Simplified, Normal and Advanced ‒ enable online buyers to choose the way their selection criteria will be presented. The available diamonds are thus shown according to particular buying scenarios (diamond and jewel, loose diamond, etc.).
If you’re interested in buying a solitaire diamond ring, the Normal form will show you some standard feeds you can choose from (color, certification, carat weight, price) with a slider available on the latter two.
The Simple form, on the other hand, does not have sliders for Price and Carat Weight, since the customer has already made their mind on a particular price range.
Last but not least, the Advanced Form, complete with a Carat/Price slider, treats the diamond investor like a real diamond connoisseur, adding filters for cut, polish, symmetry and fluorescence.
Diamond Sellers, Buyers and Wearers have one thing in common: They hate cliché designs.
The upper-class online store called for a multi-faceted website development cut to the exact measurements of the end customer.
The website owner wouldn’t be satisfied with the ready-made Drupal slider on the selection forms. The Carat weight slider needed to move tantalizingly slow, by millimeters.
Moreover, the Price slider needed minute refinements: euros should increase by 100 up to 2500, then by 500 up to 10,000, by 1000 up to 40,000, by 5,000 up to 100,000, and so forth.
Oh yeah, the website owner knew his diamond buyer psychology. Luckily, our web developer knew his Drupal, too. Those sliders didn’t come ready-made.
Faster Caching for those who won’t settle for diamonds in the rough
On top of that, a website addressing elite buyers couldn’t afford base search sluggishness. For faster search, we devised a custom caching method.
“Here are your three custom tables, Sir! Before you can say 6Cs (Carat, Color, Clarity, Cut, Certification, Certification Lab)! (Actually, before you can also say: Shape, Measurements, Symmetry, Polish, Fluorescence, and Price)!!!
Meanwhile, every 4 hours new items sneak into the collection catching online buyers unaware
While new diamonds are discreetly added in the online store’s backroom, relaxed online buyers get to choose their unique gems and jewels totally undisturbed by the inventory process.
Making your customer feel one-of-a-kind takes a lot of backshop development
There is not one diamond in the world looking exactly like another. Trilogy diamond rings and earrings can be a frustration for an online buyer trying to choose 2, let alone 3 same-looking diamonds to be set on their custom-set one-of-a-kind jewelry.
What we did was to design a tailored mechanism that groups diamonds according to a set of predefined rules. So the customer can never go wrong about his or her choice of stones to be set on the selected ring or set of earrings.
Life would be so much easier if we could choose our other half with such precision and ease.
Standing next to an expensive looking diamond can get you up the social ladder.
No pun intended. Go to the bottom of any Ddiamanti page and place your mouse to the left of the elegant, upper-class logo. Click on the upwards arrow.
What did I tell you? Upward mobility in style.
