How to check your Website Quality in 5 minutes for FREE

The quality of a website depends on various factors, and ensuring a website’s perfection is anything but easy. However, before leaping into details, two of your major concerns should be the speed of the site and the validity of the source code… and… guess what! There are 2 free easy-to-use tools that will check your website in a matter of seconds!

Scroll down to find out more about these amazing tools. But…

Do I really care about speed?

YES! Actually, you do care about your website’s speed for 2 different reasons:

  1. High speed navigation will dramatically reduce your visitors’ bounce rate and increase your site’s conversion rate.

  2. Google and the other search engines will detect your site’s speed optimisation and reward it with a better ranking among your competitors’ sites in the search results.

Do I really care about source code validity?

Again, YES! A higher level of validity of a site’s source code allows Google and the other search engines to understand its content in a better way and thus serve your site to potential visitors when they search for relevant information.

On the other hand, source code validation errors will cause search engines to penalise your site with lower rankings, which will eventually lead it into getting lost in the never-ever-viewed last pages of the search results.

So, now that you understand why a site’s speed and source code validity matter so much, here are the so promised

Website Quality Tools

W3C Markup Validation Service

W3C Markup Validation Service

The W3C Markup Validation Service will check your site’s pages for source code validation errors. In theory, you have to check every single page of your site; however, most of the times, checking your site’s front page is more than enough.

Just head to https://validator.w3.org/, enter your website’s URL and hit Enter. In less than a minute, the page will refresh showing Info, Warning and/or Error messages. Ideally, there will be no error messages, or the error messages will be few - let’s say less than 10. In that case you’re good to go! Otherwise, you should definitely take immediate action to fix them.

Google’s PageSpeed Insights

Google's PageSpeed Insights

PageSpeed Insights is a platform tool made by Google that evaluates your site’s speed and user experience both for desktop and mobile devices.

Go to https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ and, just like before, enter your website’s URL and hit Enter. PageSpeed Insights will then analyse your site and present the results in the form of percentage scores along with hints that will help you ameliorate them.

For mobile devices, you will get feedback on two main categories: speed and user experience. A minimum acceptable score for each category is considered to be 75% and 90% respectively.

For desktop devices, you will get an overall analysis for which the minimum recommended score is considered to be 85%.

Don’t wait any longer!

Check your website’s quality NOW! It’s so simple that my cat can do it - and I don’t even have a cat.
